Question 1: Might this have any hope of actually improving social accountability as people become more aware of it?
Question 2: Do you think that there will be specific options to exclude or inhibit recognition? (I'm thinking in regards to surveillance, LEO, or other sensitive individuals that might be professionally impacted.)
#1: Are you saying that people will start watching their behavior because they might be picked out of a crowd? Probably not. It wouldn't change my behavior except to perhaps start wearing a burka. ;-)
#2: The article addresses an opt-out mechanism. The larger issue might be a sort of universal "Do Not Identify" database that prevents individuals from being put into a sort of biometric database. The reality is that big data will get in on that market and start finding new sources for input as well as coalescing disparate databases into much larger files.
The business is a fascinating concept, don't get me wrong. I think the commercialization of facial recognition / biometric identification tools is a lot like firearms however; they're only cool until one is being pointed at you.
