The real purpose of your life...
I really dig Alan Watts and his ideals. He challenges me as a father and a human being who is really interested in living this one life I've been given to the very best of my abilities.
After watching this video, the question, for me, then becomes, "How does one raise their children in a manner that promotes these ideals but, at the same time, fosters their development into adults that are capable of supporting themselves and their future families?"
The idea to sort of break free from the system is certainly germane to our choice to live the "slow travel" lifestyle, but the milestone-to-milestone path is difficult to avoid as a responsible parent.
Perhaps I'm just over-thinking things here...

You aren't over-thinking it. It's tough to avoid the milestone-to-milestone path, but that doesn't mean you can't "sing and dance while the music is being played." That's a choice you get to make.
