GoPro to L. Scott Harrell: "You, you, you... INFRINGER!"

GoPro to L. Scott Harrell: "You, you, you... INFRINGER!"

Yes, GoPro has called me to the carpet for registering the domain GoProDivemaster.com in anticipation of setting up a scuba diving education center specifically meant to train and certify PADI Divemasters.

I'm chalking this one up to over-zealous and misdirected brand protection that is not being uniformly enforced and I have a bone in my teeth over it.

Here's the story; please let me know what you think by leaving your comments below or, preferably, on my blog.

Who's wrong? How would you handle the email?

Hilarious. Per the original letter, do you think they really go after every other domain with the word "hero" in it, too?

Might be that Mr. Hayes needs to leave the lawyering to actual lawyers.

How about "naked?' They apparently have that registered, too! LOL! How about GoProHeroNakedDivemaster.com???

Considering that their IP Enforcement section showed their ass this time around, it's oddly appropriate...

They sent me a second notice without replying to the first.

If you're going to fight this, make sure every single item in your domain registration is precisely correct. Don't give ICANN or your registrar any option to void the domain registration over a technicality.
