Would You Give Up Your Identity to Pursue New Business?

Would You Give Up Your Identity to Pursue New Business?

Since selling the online private investigator continuing education and magazine websites the vacuum left in my entrepreneurial soul has been filling up fast with desire to start something new... despite trying to fill that hole with world travel and a shit-ton of scuba diving. I have so many business ideas in my head that it hurts; I'm like a puppy in a warehouse of fire hydrants and I just don't know where to start first.

And I've really struggled trying to take a meaningful first step, beyond setting up social profiles for every semi-viable idea I've had, towards really moving forward with anything in particular. Right now I have two very precious commodities - MONEY AND TIME.

I'm coming to the realization that the first problem with moving forward might be my deep roots, history and connections within the private investigation profession since only a couple of new business ideas involve the profession at all. Admittedly, the two or three PI-related businesses would be low-hanging fruit that probably wouldn't make a great deal of money in the long run; the prospects of building a business with the express purpose to eventually sell it are pretty slim, too. PIs, as a market, seem chronically poor, cynical and under-motivated to do anything REAL to improve their agency business beyond be annoying because it's free and requires no effort.

My focus has always been investigations-related and my social networks are filled with investigators and investigation businesses. It's hard to focus on anything else!

It seems more and more that I am going to have to drop out of the investigator groups I'm in and discontinue the well-established investigations-related pages I admin (other than my own investigation agency related page, CompassPoint Investigations) if I am going to be able to re-focus my energy in other spaces but...

CAN I ESSENTIALLY GIVE UP MY HARD-EARNED PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY TO CHASE OTHER OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE NOT GUARANTEED TO SUCCEED?

I wish there was a balance but I haven't been able to find it.

Should I burn my ships and leave no other option but to fight forward?
